Spotify’s new AI playlist feature now live for premium users

Spotify has officially launched its AI Playlist feature for Premium subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. Initially introduced in April for users in Australia and the UK, this feature is now expanding to more regions.
Currently, the AI Playlist feature is available on iOS and Android devices, but it has not yet been rolled out for desktop or web apps.
Comparison with previous features
This new feature complements Spotify’s earlier introduction of an AI DJ in 2023, which curated playlists based on individual listening habits. However, while the AI DJ primarily relied on listening history with limited customization options, the AI Playlist offers a more hands-on approach, making it easier for users to find fresh tracks aligned with their preferences.
By leveraging AI technology for music curation, Spotify aims to enhance user experience, providing a quicker and more personalized way to create music collections compared to traditional playlist methods.
Key features of the AI Playlist include:
- Interactive creation: Users can access the AI Playlist by navigating to their Spotify library on mobile devices and tapping the "+" icon in the top right corner. From the drop-down menu, selecting "AI Playlist" opens a chat interface where users can specify their playlist desires.
- Text prompts: The feature allows users to input detailed requests for their playlists, such as “upbeat pop music for my European summer vacation” or “a romantic playlist for date night at home.” The more detailed the prompt, the better the playlist results.
- Customization: Users can enhance their playlists with additional prompts, including genres, moods, decades, or favorite artists. The interface supports various input styles, including text, numbers, and emojis, while maintaining a ban on offensive language.
- AI suggestions: Spotify's AI Playlist includes suggested prompts to help users create effective playlist descriptions. The feature is designed to learn and improve with each interaction, with ongoing updates expected.
