Google has announced a significant update for its Calendar app on Android, introducing a new full-screen task list feature aimed at improving task management for users on the go. This update is part of Google's ongoing efforts to enhance productivity tools and streamline integration with its ecosystem, including the recent Gemini AI assistant integration.

Full-Screen Task Lists in Google Calendar
The new functionality allows Android users to create, edit, and organize tasks seamlessly within the Google Calendar app. By introducing full-screen task lists, Google ensures that users can view and manage their tasks in a more comprehensive and intuitive way. This feature builds upon the full-screen task list experience rolled out to the web version of Calendar last year, now bringing similar functionality to Android smartphones.

Key Features of Full-Screen Task Lists:
  • Simplified Access: Users can access the feature via a checkmark icon on the Google Calendar home screen, alongside the user profile and Today View icons.
  • Comprehensive Task Management: The interface includes three tabs: My Tasks, Travel, and +New List, allowing users to organize and monitor their tasks in one place.
  • Task Details and Sub-Tasks: Users can add detailed notes, create sub-tasks, and see both upcoming and completed tasks.
  • Cross-Device Syncing: Tasks created in Calendar sync seamlessly across devices, ensuring consistent access via Gmail, Calendar, and other Google Workspace products.
This functionality is available to Google Workspace users, Google Workspace Individual customers, and those with personal Google accounts. It is being rolled out to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, ensuring widespread access.
Integration with Google Gemini AI
The feature further extends the functionality of Google Calendar as part of its integration with Google’s Gemini AI assistant. This AI-powered enhancement aligns with Google's broader vision of making its applications smarter and more user-friendly.
Updates to Google Drive Android File Picker
In addition to the Calendar updates, Google has also enhanced the file picker functionality for Google Drive on Android devices. The updated file picker simplifies access to recently viewed Drive items and shared files, making file retrieval faster and more efficient.
Key Features of the Improved Drive File Picker:
  • Streamlined Access: Users can quickly navigate through shared drives, My Drive, and other storage locations.
  • Enhanced Usability: Recently viewed Drive items are now more accessible, enabling quicker workflows.
This update is already live for Rapid Release domains and is scheduled to be available for Scheduled Release domains starting December 2, 2024.
Conclusion
Google’s latest updates to Calendar and Drive on Android emphasize its commitment to enhancing productivity and user experience. With full-screen task lists in Google Calendar and a revamped Drive file picker, users can expect smoother task and file management capabilities across devices. These features will empower users—whether they are professionals using Google Workspace or individuals managing personal schedules—to stay organized and productive.
